DRIVERS have been criticised for getting round Colchester’s new bus lanes policy by performing potentially dangerous U-turns.
Since October, cars have been prohibited from turning right from High Street into Queen Street. Flouting the ban risks a £30 fine.
Some High Street drivers have been continuing down East Hill, carrying out U-turns – often using Lewis Gardens, the entrance to Firstsite – then driving back up East Hill and turning left into Queen Street.
Although such turns are legal, some residents believe the manoeuvre often constitutes careless driving.
