AT the age of 18, Dave White had to decide whether to go to university or do an apprenticeship.

He opted for an apprenticeship with BT, and believes it was the reason behind his successful career.

He said: “I definitely wouldn’t have got where I am today without my apprenticeship.

“I had the option of going to university, but I thought an apprenticeship would give me good career opportunities.”

Seeing the positive impact an apprentice can have on a business, he is keen to get companies to pledge to take one on as part of the 100 in 100 campaign.

The new initiative, which has been set up by Colchester Institute, the National Apprentice Service, Sir Bob Russell and the Gazette, asks businesses across Colchester to pledge to take on an apprentice this year.
