The magic of the movies will be the theme for this year’s Colchester Carnival.

Preparations are well underway for this year’s event which will be held on July 19 and include a carnival procession through the town in the afternoon.

Throughout the day there will also be sideshows, attractions and family fun events in Castle Park.

Members of Colchester Round Table and Colchester Ladies Circle are organising the event for their fourth year.

Bob Weston, chairman of Weston Homes which is sponsoring the event, said: “Colchester is one of the fastest growing towns in the UK and an important commuter town for London.

“2014 marks the fourth consecutive year that we have been proud sponsors of the Colchester Carnival and we look forward to celebrating with local people and visitors, taking part in the festivities, and supporting the deserving local causes with the money raised. “These funds enable the local community to thrive and prosper."

More than £6,000 was raised at last year’s event and the proceeds were split between 15 clubs, schools and charities.
