DARING dos were the order of the day at a hair salon’s fundraiser to say thanks for saving a little boy’s life.
Staff at Benjamin Charles hair salon on Colchester’s North Hill ditched their more sensible daily styles for wacky ones, in return for a donation.
All the cash that went through the till was also donated to the chosen cause, the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
The fundraiser was organised by salon owner Benn Holbrook-Morris whose seven-month-old son Monty had life-saving heart surgery at the London hospital in January.
Little Monty was born with a rare heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot.
His mum Joanna and husband Benn, of Puffinsdale, Great Clacton, were told Monty might not survive birth.
The little fighter was born three weeks early by emergency caesarean on July 19 last year.
In January he had to undergo a complex nine-hour, lifesaving operation at Great Ormond Street to fix the heart defect.
He is on the road to recovery with his condition being monitored.
Mr Holbrook-Morris said £680 was raised at the ‘Hair Raising’ event which also included a cake sale. “We are really, really happy. It was a brilliant day, very fun and everyone really made the effort,” he said.
