COLCHESTER Academy has unveiled plans to increase the number of pupils from 750 to 1,200 at the opening of its £15million expansion.
The academy was significantly under capacity when it opened in 2010.
Now it is planning to admit 240 pupils a year instead of 120 from September 2015.
Headteacher Barry Hersom said: “Colchester is a boom town. We are expanding to accommodate the increasing number of children in Colchester.”
Julie Young, a governor, said: “We hope the new buildings, improved standards and a focus on behaviour will see Colchester Academy become the first choice of education.”
