Meet Colchester's Good Neighbours
Updated 12:33pm Thursday 27th February 2014 in News
COLCHESTER’S good neighbours were celebrated at a glitzy ceremony.
In total, 20 Colchester Borough Homes tenants were nominated for four awards at the event, held in Colchester Town Hall.
Tina Fulcher, 51, took home the top prize in the Good Neighbour Award category after being nominated for being an “amazing neighbour”.
Margaret Harkin, 62, was recognised as the best Sheltered Housing Neighbour while Heather Corris, 52, was the top pick in the Neighbour Achievement Award.
Good neighbour Bill Nairn was also recognised for his action against antisocial behaviour.
About 50 guests packed into the Mayor’s Parlour last night, including Anne Grahamslaw, Chair of the Board at Colchester Borough Homes.
She said: “It’s the little things people do that makes a difference and that is what our Good Neighbour Awards celebrate.
“Whether it is helping someone attend a hospital appointment, or taking someone shopping – all the nominees and winners are inspirational, and have really helped create a sense of community within our neighbourhoods.”
She added: “It’s really important to celebrate positive behaviour as it has a contagious effect and encourages others to do more of the same.”
