Silver End Primary School headteacher Julia Palmer has sent out a warning letter to parents following the alleged incident.

Essex County Standard: Headteacher warns of "attempted abduction" Headteacher warns of "attempted abduction"

A headteacher has issued a warning to parents amid claims of “an attempted abduction”.

Silver End Primary School headteacher Julia Palmer sent out a letter to parents yesterday to inform them that children have been given safety advice following the scare.

Mrs Palmer does not give the date of the alleged abduction in her letter, but police have investigated a report made to officers on Monday.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “Police were contacted shortly before 1.35pm on Monday following concerns about a man in a van on Broadway, Silver End.

“Officers spoke with two young girls and their mother and are satisfied no attempts were made to abduct them.

“The man didn’t speak to the girls and didn’t get out of the van.”

So a man sat in his van. He spoke to no one and never got out...why is this an attempted abduction? Even the police said it wasn't. Did he beckon the girl or something? Terribly confusing and non-informative article.

This school is a joke where childrens safety is concerned. It's a shame staff at this school don't practice what they preach about making sure children are safe.Mrs Palmer knows of past problems.

1; Who said this happened on school grounds, not me
2; Correct this had nothing to do with the school,
3;Maybe this letter issued by the school was unhelpful as the police have said no child was approached or beckoned to the vehicle.
4; NOT SLANDEROUS, FACT
Scaremongering at the least me thinks.

A couple we know who live in Colchester had this same incident the other week when their child was followed, then chased. The young girl (their daughter) ran into a persons garden where a man was gardening and pretended it was her father (shouting 'DAD!') and the person (old man) following her soon ran away!
