THE owner of Colchester’s Silk Road says a shortage of police officers is to blame for trouble in St Botolph’s Street and Queen Street – not his business.

Essex Police has asked Colchester Council to review Silk Road’s licence.

They say trouble inside and outside the nightclub in St Botolph’s Street can be attributed to its customers.

Osman Rasih, owner, says he has received hundreds of e-mails, Facebook messages and letters since the Gazette revealed its licence will be reviewed.

Mr Rasih said: “The police can’t just use the bars as scapegoats.

“I’m not blaming the police officers, but the police force has had cut backs.

“There aren’t enough officers to support this area.

“How is that my fault? I’m being held responsible for stuff that’s got nothing to do with us.”

Silk Road customers have contacted Mr Rasih, and the Gazette, to support the nightspot.
