REGENERATION bosses are gearing up for a fresh Euro funding bid having completed a £450,000 upgrade of Colchester’s Hythe.

The 18-month Town to Port project saw a series of pontoons installed at King Edward Quay, the old Hythe Bridge turned into a community space, the route to Rowhedge upgraded and a series of wayfinder points set up.

Studies looking at further regeneration of the area were also funded by two grants totalling around £450,000 from the European Union’s Transcoast project.

Colchester MP Sir Bob Russell was given a tour of the newly completed work, much of which was influenced by the Old Port’s industrial heritage.

The Lib Dem MP said he would support future EU funding bids, likely to become available following elections in May.
