MORE than 1,000 residents responded to a consultation on plans to review parking in Colchester.

Colchester Council announced plans to change the areas where motorists can park in the town without a resident’s permit in late January.

Residents were given until last Monday, February 17, to respond.

Matthew Young, head of street services at Colchester Council, said the majority of responses relate to controversial plans to implement a residents only permit scheme all day in Christchurch, which covers Lexden Road, Oxford Road and Beverley Road.

He added: “We will now meet to go through all the responses with a view to deciding essentially whether to stay with what is in place at the moment or implement the proposals.”

Each person who responded will be written to by council officers.

Mr Young added: “I would like to thank people for taking the time to respond.

“Their views are extremely useful and we will take them very seriously.”
