A MAN has been arrested after allegations he engaged in sexual activity with a pupil.
The staff member at St Helena School, in Sheepen Road, Colchester, is being investigated by police after a third party raised concerns.
An Essex Police spokesman confirmed a man was arrested and questioned and has been bailed until May 15 pending further enquiries.
He said: “Police are in the early stages of an investigation following a report from a third party about an abuse of a position of trust.”
Neither the staff member or pupil can be named for legal reasons.
A statement released by Essex County Council on behalf of St Helena School said: “Following a safeguarding concern, we adhered to protocol and alerted Essex County Council’s safeguarding team and the police.
“We continue to assist the police with their investigations.
“No further comment can be made at this stage.”
The school and council refused to say if the teacher has been suspended.
