BOLLARDS have been installed in a residential street to stop drivers using the road as a rat run.
Colchester Council has built three bollards in Spurgeon Street, New Town.
It comes after calls from residents during a Community Day of Action, in September.
Tim Young, Colchester councillor responsible for community safety, said: “We listened to what residents said they wanted during the day of action and I am happy that we are able to respond in this way.
“I hope residents of Spurgeon Street will now feel safer in their road.”
The Safer Colchester Partnership paid for one bollard while the New Town councillors used their local fund to pay for one.
The third was paid for by the council community zone team.
Annie Feltham, borough councillor for New Town, said: “Myself and the other ward councillors for New Town, Theresa and Peter Higgins, feel this is a good use of our ward councillor funding.
“It will not only make Spurgeon Street safer for residents concerned about speeding cars, but it should have a knock-on effect on road safety in surrounding streets.”
