New £5 million hotel plans for Colchester submitted

First published in News

PLANS have been submitted to knock down the River Lodge pub in Middleborough, Colchester, and replace it with a £5million complex.

The Elysium Group wants to build a 50-bed hotel, wine bar and 150-space restaurant.

Work would start soon after Colchester Council grants permission.

The venue would create between 50 and 70 jobs.

Good place for it. I would hope that the long overdue footpath along the river will be incorporated into the plan. Plenty of parking and handy for station and town.

Ideal location for a good hotel, and resturant. Agree footpath along river should be part of the deal. Good to see a Lola businesman continuing to develop in the town.

There is a foot path along the river there. Its a public right of way. You have to go over the board walk and around.

The footpath is not complete. There is no link to the path that run up towards Colne Bank Ave. The idea was for a complete pathway from North Station Road to Colne Bank Ave on the south side of the river, but like many 'ideas' nothing has ever come of it.

the place at the ends of the earth to which certain favoured heroes were conveyed by the gods after death.
1.1 (as noun an Elysium) a place or state of perfect happiness.

this organisation run by former essex uni students puzzles me?
they own Waikiki in crouch street (moved from north hill in name) the cube bar
mimosa bar a type club called XV membership lounge and the dirty penguin bar.
i sometimes see these places half empty and in one case it has had more refits than a coalition cabinet.
the area proposed to build this new hotel great idea but was this not an existing hotel owned by Mr Said electronics and old David Wicks?
they want to create a 150 seater restaurant and fill it with what?
the high street hotels cannot even fill their tables, we are talking 40 tables here?
it is noticeable the amount of success these places have with the Lamborghini and Ferraris that drive down crouch street especially with the funny number plates.
i may be cynical but the math does not appear to add up they are already discounting food tariffs at the cube, having said that £5 million does not buy you much?

What is your problem exactly Mr Gentleman? You seem to have a heavy dose of envy. Don't we need entrepreneurs like this to come to Colchester and to make it a better place? I fully support the idea; an idea that will help our town to grow to meet the demand that will come through all the new housing that is being forced upon us. If you can't beat them, join them.
