'Parking plans will ruin us'

Essex County Standard: 'Parking plans will ruin us' 'Parking plans will ruin us'

A DOCTOR says new parking proposals will kill his practice.

Under fresh proposals, Colchester Council plans to introduce all-day parking restrictions in parts of Christchurch.

It would mean Dr Mark Gurdon’s patients would not be able to park close to the practice, in Gray Road, and would have to choose to park in paid-for town centre car parks or leave the practice.

The plans are part of a borough-wide review, which the council hopes will ease parking problems in the town centre and in areas commuters use to park for free.

Chiropractor Dr Gurdonm who runs Lexden Chiropractic and Back Pain Clinic, said: “One of our concerns with the proposed parking regulations is that patients will not have proper access to our clinic and would not be able to make use of us, which potentially has very serious consequences for us as a local business.

“Access is key for patients and often they choose their provider based on location and access to a clinic."

Or turn the "Private Parking" in the photo into "Customer Parking" and ask the more able staff to walk a short distance, which will have additional health benefits for them, too?

Might be good for the yummy mummy's dropping their precious offspring at the fee paying schools in the area, but not so good for the small businesses and their employees in the area. Do staff at the Essex County get to clog up the streets for free?

Residents in this arfea sometimes find it impossible to park near their homes. It may surprise the doctor to find out that there are dozens of surgeries all over the town with no parking on street and patients manage perfectly well. Of course if they're not local you might ask why.

I would like to know does Harry Brown own a car? I have every sympathy with D Mark Gurdon. This is not about parking it is about raising more money from parking, rather than spend money making these changes spend it on trying to resolve the traffic problems that blight this town. "IT'S A NIGHTMARE".

I don't see his point. There are other practices which sit right in the middle of resident only parking areas and they all cope.

Failing that, it's time to move elsewhere.

Parking is a massive issue around there. I would always pick a practice based on accessibility. People in pain don't want to walk for miles to see a Doctor.

Whoa ... let's be clear that a chiropractic doctor is not a doctor in the everyday sense.

Chiropractic is an alternative medicine (Wikipedia) around which there is substantial controversy. http://www.skepdic.c
om/chiro.html says: "This idea was first propounded in 1895 by D. D. Palmer (1845-1913), a grocer and magnetic healer from Davenport, Iowa. Palmer was a vitalist who considered intelligent energy to be conveying information among various body parts. There is no scientific evidence to support these ideas."

The Gazette ought to make it clearer that we're not talking about a normal GP,

Also note the libel case taken by the the British Chiropractic Association against science writer Simon Singh http://en.wikipedia.
