THE headteacher of a school deemed by Ofsted as requiring improvements said it was already working to get up to scratch.

Parsons Heath Primary School, in Templewood Road, Colchester, was inspected by the watchdog last month.

Inspectors said it required improvement in three categories – pupil achievement, teaching quality and leadership and management.

In many areas, the inspectors said they could see procedures had already been put in place to address their concerns.

However, the final grading was based on 2013 results.

The report said: “The rate of progress in reading and mathematics is improving across the school, though pupils still have ground to make up.

Where teaching is good, pupils’ extremely positive attitudes to learning are helping to drive this recent improvement.”

Headteacher Sheena Clover said: “We were concerned the data for Key Stage 2 wasn’t as high as it usually is in the summer, so we immediately looked into the areas we felt needed improvement. We put an action plan, resources and expectations into place.

“The inspectors saw the leadership team had already identified what we need to work on in order to improve.”

The report praised Key Stage 1 standards, the teaching of phonics and children’s behaviour.

Ms Clover said: “We have wonderful children, parents and governors.

“Our staff are extremely committed. Everybody is regularly monitored and given feedback on what they can do to improve. We all want to do better, not for anybody else other than the children. They deserve the best we can give.”
