Essex County Standard: Two drivers rack up 60 penalty points between them Two drivers rack up 60 penalty points between them

TWO Essex drivers are among the top ten in the country for endorsements on their licences – racking up 60 penalty points between them.

The figures were released by the DVLA in response to a Freedom of Information request yesterday and reveal a driver from Westcliff racked up 30 points on ten speeding offences, six of which were over a two-week period between September 30 and October 13 2012.

The figures also revealed a Colchester motorist was hit with 30 points through not declaring the driver in four separate offences. Topping the list, however, was a Liverpool man with 45 points for speeding and not declaring a driver – beating the previous record of 42 by a London driver last year.

Failing to give the identity of the owner, speeding and driving uninsured are the most common reasons for points.

Institute of Advanced Motorists chief executive Simon Best said: “The DVLA must rapidly overall their systems and working relationships with the courts to ensure that the whole principle of 12 points and you are off the road is not undermined.”

The whole principle of 12 points and you are off the road, is now 12 points and you are still on the road albeit illegally as you know nothing will happen to you.

Get 12 points and it's a ban, but cause 12 minor accidents and no sod gives a ****, the police refuse to attend minor accidents even though it's the perfect time to actually catch a real poor driver?

Over 193,000 people were injured in road traffic accidents in 2012. That's just the reported injuries and doesn't include accidents were no one was injured or unreported accidents.

If the police attended every minor accident they wouldn't have time to do anything else!
