A MAN was arrested as part of a police crackdown on drink-driving after he was seen pushing a car out of a ditch.
Officers spotted Robert Gillett, 25, of Witch Elm, Dovercourt, pushing the car to safety on just after midnigh this morning.
The car was stuck in a ditch in Crown Lane near Weeley.
Gillett was charged with one count of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
He has been released on bail and will appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
The arrest was made as part of a major drink-driving campaign launched by Essex Police over the festive season.
So far officers have carried out more than 2,500 breath tests and 79 people have been charged with drink-driving related offences across the county.
The campaign will continue until the end of December.
