DETECTIVES have released an efit of a wanted man after a motorist was punched and forced to drive more than 23 miles.

The driver was stationary in his car at the roundabout at Sainsbury’s in Stanway when the assailant got in the back seat, hit him in the head and ordered him to drive towards Harwich.

The black Ford Focus, with AA Driving School logos on the side, travelled along the A12 and A120 until the driver was ordered to stop at Little Oakley Hall, Harwich Road, Little Oakley.

DC Pete Gartland, Essex Police investigating officer, said: “This was an extremely unusual incident and we are keen to speak to any witnesses at Stanway or Little Oakley, or anyone who saw this man hanging around at both locations.

“[The vehicle is quite] distinctive and at the time of day that this happened there would have been many other motorists and shoppers around.

"We also want to hear from anyone who can identify the suspect in the efit.”

The man is described as of large build, between 5ft 10in and 6ft tall and aged about 45. He was wearing a blue baseball cap and a grey waterproof jacket.

The incident took place at about 11.45am on Saturday, November 9.

Anyone with information should contact DC Gartland at Colchester CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
