County hall needs to find £20million more savings

Essex County Standard: Council leader David Finch said he is "confident" the authority's financial strategy could rise to the challenge. Council leader David Finch said he is "confident" the authority's financial strategy could rise to the challenge.

COUNTY Hall says it needs to find an extra £20million in savings by 2016.

Previous estimates by Essex County Council predicted the authority needs to reduce spending by £215million.

But officers have now revised this upwards to at least £235million, in part due to an expected halving of government funding between this year and 2016/17 with a £117million reduction.

Senior councillors are set to discuss the county council’s long-term financial strategy at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

Council leader David Finch said: “Through our hard work and careful financial management we saved £365 million by March this year. However, while our funding is being cut, the demand for our services continues to grow.”

1) Stop sending money oversea's
2) Stop more immigrants coming here claiming money
3) Stop the planned 11% pay rise

Problem solved and you would be amazing how much would be available towards sorting this mess of a country out

1. Do you include stopping Brits going on holiday abroad in this idea.
2. I though Johnny Foreigner puts in more than he takes out. Wouldn't it be better to stop paying money to Brits who choose to go and live abroad?
3. It should be more than 11%. MP's earn less than headteachers, and given the state of our schools we need MP's who are more competent than headteachers.

Paying the Chief Executive more than the prime minister and having people working three days a week earning £100. 000 doesn't help but I guess it's easy to be generous with other peoples' money that they are forced to pay.

1) Brits going aboard - they presumably have paid into the system, however, I'm not aware that Brits living abroad just receive benefits??
2) Tourists are welcome here they contribute money into the economy and create 1000's of jobs. Without them hotels etc wouldn't survive because English people cannot afford to holiday in England. People that emigrate aboard to retire are fully entitled to money that is due to them as they have contributed into the system during their working life. Lots choose to retire abroad because they simply can't afford to retire here.
3) MP's paid more than head teachers? Seriously head teachers have tougher jobs than MP's and deserve every penny they get. The general public have no trust in MP's as 99% have been caught out fiddling expenses or have managed to escape the glaring eye. There are very few that have any idea how difficult it is for every day people to make ends meet

At the end of the day 11% is totally unjustied at a time when everyone else is being pinned down with little or no pay rises with costs escalating.

Smoke and mirrors, they forget to include the cost of the benefit payments to the person whose job he's stolen by working for minimum wage or less.

I was referring to the foreigners that come here as tourists, I agree they need to seriously get to grips with the illegals working here. Deporting them and fining heavily any one employing them.

Are you all potty? Whether MPs get an 11 per cent rise is irrelevant to this story - it's about the County Council. Neither has it got anything to do with immigration of emigration by British people living overseas. It's about Essex.

Are you potty?Tell us why the county has to make the savings. The government who have been awarded 11% are the ones who have cut the county monies and at the same time enforced a ban on council tax increase.Don't tell people they are potty when they see the bigger and more offensive truth.
