A COLLEGE was transformed into a winter wonderland to celebrate Christmas and raise money for good causes.

Stalls were set up at Colchester Sixth Form College in the event thought up by culture committee chairman Jouja Maamri and organised jointly by the student arts and culture committees.

Students celebrated the approach of the end of term and Christmas break with a variety of seasonal activities.

Music students performed renditions of festive favourites Santa Baby and Fairytale of New York.

And a seasonal photo booth allowed students to dress up with seasonal props and have their portraits taken by photography students.

Students also paid for Indian nail art and forehead decorations known as bindis and entered a competition to find the best Christmas jumper.

The event raised money for the Red Cross disaster appeal for the Philippines after the devastating Typhoon Haiyan which left millions homeless.

Money was also raised for students who will work in deprived areas of India over the Christmas break.

Avariety of cultures were celebrated as students made traditional Philippino parol star lanterns which were hung alongside a Christmas tree.

The tree was also decorated with ceramic doves created by arts committee students.
