STUDENT film makers have appealed for help to raise £12,000 to make a mini-movie about the First World War.

The 30-minute film, called the Trench, is being created by York University students, including former Colchester Sixth Form College student Alice Catchpole, pictured.

Donors will get a credit, a digital copy of the film or merchandise depending on how much they give.

The film has been adapted from a stage showperformed at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Alice, 21, of Wormingford, said: “Normally student films don’t have to raise so much money, but we wanted to make it look as realistic as possible.

“We are going to build a First World War miner’s tunnel and we’re hiring costumes.”

Other costs will include makeup, equipment, such as a camera crane, and special effects. The team is casting unpaid actors.

Alice, the film’s production designer, said if the seven-strong team do not reach its fundraising target, they may need to dig into their own pockets to finance it.

Alice said: “It is the biggest project I have taken on. I want to do something big, so I can go into the industry with it under my belt.”

Shooting will start at the end of January in the Ipswich area and should take about ten days.
