Police warning after two horror smashes in 24 hours

Essex County Standard: Berechurch Hall Road crash Berechurch Hall Road crash

A HORROR smash left three women in hospital after a car flipped and rolled off a country road.

The red Hyundai crashed through a metal gate, smashing trees and flying into a ditch after the 48-year-old driver from Langenhoe lost control.

Police closed Oxley Hill and Layer Road near Abberton, Colchester, for more than two hours this morning while paramedics provided emergency care and firefighters tried to get them out of the overturned vehicle.

The incident took place just after 8am. None of those involved received life threatening injuries.

It was the second serious crash involving cars flipping and rolling into ditches within 24 hours on country roads in Colchester.

Yesterday a green Peugeot 206 and white Ford panel van clipped each other at about 10.30am on Berechurch Hall Road.

Fortunately the 37-year-old female driver was not seriously injured.

Anyone with information about either crash call Stanway's road policing unit on 101.

See Thursday's Gazette for more on the crashes.

That stretch of road near Abberton is very uneven so you have to take it easy. I'm surprised that a local driver was caught out. Anyway let's hope all three women make a full and speedy recovery.

Agreed. The road is an absolute mess.

Unless there are external reasons such as animals in the road or water, diesel etc on the road, if people drove according to their skill level and slowed down this type of 'accident' would not happen.
