Three men were arrested after a man was allegedly slashed with a weapon in Halstead.

The incident, which police described as a “serious disturbance”, is said to have happened outside Friends Chinese restaurant and takeaway, in High Street, at about 11.30pm last night.

An Essex Police spokesman said officers were called to “reports of people fighting with weapons”.

On arrival, a 21-year-old Halstead man was found to have a deep cut to his shoulder and was taken by ambulance to Colchester General Hospital.

The injury was described as serious but not life-threatening.

A 47-year-old man from Croydon, south London, and a 48-year-old man, of no fixed address, were both arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon.

A 28-year-old man from Sudbury was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

All three remain in custody today.

Police refused to comment on the weapon believed to have been used.

Witnesses are urged to call officers at Braintree police station on 101.
