Essex County Standard: Michael Gove visits Colchester Michael Gove visits Colchester

EDUCATION Secretary Michael Gove visited Montgomery Junior School in Colchester.

The Tory cabinet member was given a tour of the site, which is set for an expansion.

Mr Gove asked pupils about their schoolwork and took questions from them.

He met with a set of parents to discuss the importance of a settled education for children who come from military families.

Montgomery Infant and Junior Schools have many pupils whose parents serve in the Army.

The visit culminated in Mr Gove joining staff for tea and cake before he took questions from journalists.

Mr Gove’s visit was organised by Will Quince, leader of Colchester’s Conservative group.

Mr Gove said: “It has been fantastic. I have had a lovely time and the children are delightful.

“The team have made me feel most welcome.”

So the general election campaign for 2015 is under way. No-hopers like Will Quince have to bring in their cabinet ministers early. But support from Govey, no doubt on his way to somewhere else, smacks of the kiss of death.
