Police officers investigated over rape, theft and child porn claims

Essex County Standard: Cops investigated for rape, theft and child porn claims Cops investigated for rape, theft and child porn claims

POLICE officers have been under investigation for rape, theft and possessing indecent images of children, new documents show.

The shocking details were released by Nick Alston, Police and Crime Commissioner, yesterday showing 852 complaints were “finalised” by Essex Police between October 1, 2012 and September 30, 2013, with 9.5 per cent being upheld.

The allegations have led to officers being arrested, being taken to court, facing disciplinary action and others being disproved.

Mr Alston said many of the allegations were of “deep concern”.

The documents show three officers were arrested and bailed after allegations of possession of indecent images of children, harassment and sexual offences, and sexual assault.

One of these officers was charged with eight offences and is due to appear at Ipswich Crown Court.

Criminal investigations into the officer accused of possessing indecent images were dropped and an investigation into misconduct was opened.

Another case shows how an officer attempted to kiss a female detainee.

The report also reveals how a now-dismissed Southend officer attended a domestic dispute, only to contact the woman afterwards by accessing police records.

The officer contacted the woman and a friend she was staying with on Facebook, using three different names and met with her three times.

He also sent her sexual text and picture messages.

A police spokesman said: “The vast majority of officers and staff are professional and act with honesty and integrity, but the force is very aware the actions of rogue individuals can impact greatly on how it is viewed.

“For this reason the force aims to deal robustly with any allegations of misconduct and ensure that they are fully investigated, that appropriate action is taken and lessons are learnt.”

Excellent work Nick. Knowing the police will no longer tolerate nor cover up this behaviour is great news.

The majority of police are good honest people but going after the bad ones gives the public confidence and trust in the police.

What a totally ridiculous comment based entirely on a personal dislike for the police.
Can you imagine the discussion in the HR departments office.
Chief Constable: "Right, we need to save £32milion"
HR person. "OK, we'll get all the good cops in to the office and tell them they're fired"
Chief Constable.. "Excellent work, just make sure you don't let any of those lazy and bent ones go though"

supermadmax is often wide of the mark, but I have to say that his/her comments this time are spot on.

So you believe this is the end of police cover ups? Next you will be telling me that Colchester Hospital is the best in the land? The police force in this country is riddled with corruption, after all the findings of the PCC they have finally charged someone for the murder of the guy crushed by the cement mixer near Romford, and why has it taken this long?

In order then, I believe on the whole the police are more transparent now than ever. I don't recall my comment saying I believe this is the end of 'police cover ups' as you put it.
I don't know anything about Colchester hospital. Not sure how that fits in with this story.
The 'police force of this land' is made up of 40 or so separate forces. I think the Essex PCC is right to publish these details. If you think that makes Essex Police 'riddled with corruption' so be it, that's your view but I'm entitled to disagree, as you are to disagree with mine.
All the articles I read regarding the cement mixer incident seem to relate to the police transparency in identifying their short comings, and the Crown Prosecution Service will be responsible for any decision to charge somebody in these circumstances.
I don't know why it has taken so long. I'm not a police officer or CPS lawyer.

Sorry, just to add quickly as I'm sure you'll want to be completely accurate with facts, nobody has been charged with murder for the cement mixer incident by the way.
A person has actually been charged with manslaughter though.

Hello Loser ! Where have you been hiding? Matron only given you your privileges back for not wetting the bed?

Can you prove I have ever made a racist remark on any thread here? No.

Can you prove I have denigrated any person on here who has mental issues? No.

However, if you say it was you I've offended, in that case you are right, and so am I.

(Have a little think about that point eh?)
