POLICE officers will soon begin wearing cameras when they attend domestic abuse incidents in a bid to catch the abusers in the act.
Next month a number of response officers at Essex Police will be given the body-cams.
Chief Constable Stephen Kavanagh said: “Using these cameras helps support the force’s drive to have more successful prosecutions of offenders where victims are reluctant to give evidence in court.”
Nick Alston, Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex, added: “On average, there are 20 crimes of domestic violence recorded in Essex every single day.
“It is essential that we do everything in our power to protect the victims of domestic abuse and bring perpetrators to justice.”
The force has been working with victims on how best to respond to and prevent incidents.
Chief officers have also pledged support for the white ribbon campaign designed to make men take more responsibility for reducing violence against women.
