It said " Police were called......on Friday, November 1." not when they turned up which could have been yesterday.

I was surprised this wasn't in the paper when it happened because, according to my sources (who seem to be better than the Gazette's sources quite often, maybe I am in the wrong job), it was like an old-fashioned bar brawl from the movies. Thankfully without any guns or knives. It's surprising to me, but quite a lot of people do come up from London to go clubbing in Colchester, even with the huge array of venues in London. Sadly, it can sometimes raise the hackles of the locals and indeed the squaddies.

To be fair to the Gazette, maybe they knew all about it anyway and are reporting on the bail being granted, Or perhaps the first they knew was when it came up in court, in which case they definitely need to build up some contacts around the town.
