SANTA’S little helper Gemma Frost is doing her bit to help pensioners facing Christmas alone.

For the sixth year running, mum-of-two Gemma is hoping to give presents to elderly residents who spend Christmas alone.

She is determined to make sure the festive season is still special for people in north Essex.

She was inspired to start her Christmas Present Appeal after a vicar asked her sister if she had space at her table on Christmas Day for an elderly gentleman who was alone.

Gemma managed to get six presents for him.

Since 2008, more than 1,000 presents have been distributed to people spending Christmas alone, including more than 400 gifts last year.

Gemma, 37, who works in customer services at the Oaks Hospital Colchester, said: “I’m amazed at the number of people who give presents.

“St Peter’s Primary School, in Coggeshall, took part for the first time last year and the children made all the tags and cards.

“It’s amazing how much time, effort and energy people put in to their presents.”

Due to the success of previous appeals, Miss Frost has broadened it this year to include residents of all ages who will be spending Christmas at home.
