Centre designed by famous architect plan shelved by Essex University
3:53pm Thursday 3rd October 2013 in News
PLANS to build a flagship centre at Essex University designed by a world famous architect have been scrapped.
Daniel Libeskind, who designed the replacement for New York’s World Trade Centre, destroyed by the 9/11 terrorist attacks, had been chosen to create a home for the university’s landmark Institute of Democracy and Conflict Resolution.
But the university has decided to shelve the project and move the under construction Knowledge Gateway research park in a different direction.
Mr Libeskind said: “Studio Daniel Libeskind has enjoyed an entirely collaborative and constructive relationship with the University of Essex, since embarking on the proposed Institute for Democracy and Conflict Resolution complex in 2010.
"The University of Essex has decided to review their strategies for the University's Knowledge Gateway and we wish them all the best in the restructuring of this inspiring project."
