Volunteers do their bit for Macmillan cancer charity

COMMUNITY group Voices of St Anne’s held an event to raise money for Macmillan.
The group, which sold cakes, coffee and tea at St Anne’s Church, in Compton Road, Colchester, on Friday morning, before moving on to Willow Brooke Primary School, in Barnardiston Road in the afternoon.
In total, the group raised £130 for the cancer charity.
Mel Prout, chair of VOSA said: “There was a fantastic turnout from St Anne's community.
“It shows St Anne’s community spirit is very much alive.
“It's been a great success today for such a fabulous cause.”
Meanwhile, volunteers in Stanway raised more than £100 during an event at the Live and Let Live pub, Millers Lane.
More than 25 people turned up on Friday between 11.30am and 1.30pm.
Lesley Scott-Boutell, who helped organise the event, the first in Stanway, said: “It was buzzing.
“People really seemed to be having a good time and most of all, we were able to raise some money for a very worthwhile cause.”
She added: “When you organise something like this, you don’t know how it’s going to go, but we’re really happy with the turnout.”
Cakes were donated by Blackberry Bakery, while some donuts were provided by Sainsbury’s, in Tollgate.
