Mum wants 'P' sign removed to make crossing safer
9:00am Thursday 26th September 2013 in News
A MUM is calling for a dangerous sign to be removed because it is blocking the view of people crossing a high-speed rural road.
Georgina Church wants a parking sign in Mersea Road to be removed so she and her family can cross the road safely when they go and from a Friday Woods.
Mrs Church, who lives in Haye Lane, on the opposite side of the road from the woods, takes her daughters Florence, 11, and Harriet, 13, to walk family dog Lilley in the woods almost every day.
But when they come back from the woods, they regularly face dicing with death to cross the road to get home.
Mum Mrs Church, 42, said: “Nearly every time we are coming back from the woods, we go to cross the road, we look right to see what’s coming from Mersea and we look left to see what’s coming from the town centre side and then we go to cross and all of a sudden there’s a car speeding towards us from Colchester which we haven't been able to see."
“It’s a death trap and there’s really no need for it to be there.”
The sign is there to remind drivers coming from Mersea of a lay by further up the road, at Donyland Woods.
An Essex County Council spokesman said: “Essex Highways is aware of the query from the resident and an investigation of the area has been made by an Essex Highways officer.
“We are now in the process of assessing if this signage requires relocating.”
