A POST-MORTEM examination following the death of a baby in a car crash has revealed she died of head injuries.

Diamond Roberts, aged nine months, was a back seat passenger when the car she was travelling in crash in Thorrington on August 23.

An inquest into her death was opened in Chelmsford this morning.

Diamond, of Hawthorn Avenue, Greenstead, was one of six people travelling in a Hyundai towards Clacton when it collided with a Land Rover on the B1027 Clacton Road, just outside Thorrington.

She was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, but coroner’s officer John Denham told the court at today's hearing her death was confirmed later the same day.

Coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray opened and adjourned the inquest while the police investigation is on-going, and extended the court’s sympathy to Diamond’s family.

  • A St Osyth man, 61, was arrested at the time of the crash and released on police bail until December 2 while inquiries continue.
