Halstead: Fears raised town could lose more than half of district council posts
1:00pm Sunday 8th September 2013 in News
Fears have been raised Halstead could lose more than half of its district councillors.
Mayor David Hume believes the worst case scenario is that the area may have three of its five district councillors cut under a boundary review.
The Local Government Boundary Commission (LGBC) is currently holding the second phase of its consultation about the future of the Braintree district wards.
It is asking residents how they would like to reduce the number of district councillors from 60 to 50, following a consultation in March about the initial idea.
Mr Hume, wrote to LGBC in May and estimated Halstead would lose one or maybe two councillors from its ward of Halstead Trinity and Halstead St Andrews.
He said: “The majority of Halstead town councillors do not consider this to be in the best interests of the residents of Halstead."
