Funding finally found for Colchester's park and ride
10:01am Thursday 5th September 2013 in News
NEARLY £6 million of government cash has finally been found to build Colchester’s first park and ride.
The South East local enterprise partnership has been awarded £65.9 million of Department for Transport funding and chosen to provisionally award it for seven schemes across Essex, Kent and Sussex.
Included is £5.9 million for a 1,000 space park and ride at Cuckoo Farm along with “bus priority” improvements at the North Station Roundabout bottleneck.
A County Hall spokesman said although the money would not be available until 2015, the park and ride should be open by the end of 2014.
She said: “Essex County Council intends to introduce bus priority measures at the same time and these are currently being designed at present, with the station area being a key focus for bus operations.”
