Assaults on hospital staff leads to more than 650 sick days
ASSAULTS at a learning disability centre led to more than 650 sick days for staff in the last year.
In the 2012/3 financial year there were 225 physical assaults on workers at the Lexden Hospital, in London Road, 167 of which resulted in injury.
A total of six of the assaults led to staff needing time off sick, with 664 calendar days lost as a result.
The number of assaults and the total resulting in injury has fallen over the past three years, with 482 assaults in 2010/1 of which 256 led to injury. However the number of sick days has increased from 365.
A spokesman for the trust said: “Reducing the number of assaults on staff from service users is a priority for us.
“If a member of staff needs to take some time off work after an assault, we provide occupational health support to them and make sure they are well supported when they feel ready to return to work.”
