More breast cancer survivors invited to Colchester celebration

MORE breast cancer survivors are being invited to a celebratory party in Colchester.

Organisers of the Life After Breast cancer tea party, at Colchester’s Moot Hall on October 3, want to beat last year’s attendance of 109.

It is open to anyone, including men, who has ever been diagnosed with breast cancer. Survival rates are improving because of earlier detection, more awareness and targeted treatment.

Karen Reeve, breast care nurses secretary at Essex County Hospital, said it was always an enjoyable afternoon where people can benefit from meeting others in the same situation.

This piece repeats misinformation by referring to "survival rates", a heavily biased statistical concept. If women knew that higher or "improved survival rates" of breast cancer hasn't led to a (significant) reduction in mortality from breast cancer, and many other real facts about breast cancer and mammography (read "The Mammogram Myth: The Independent Investigation Of Mammography The Medical Profession Doesn't Want You To Know About" by Rolf Hefti.
