Jaywick: Crew saved from stranded yacht
10:10am Saturday 31st August 2013 in News
LIFEBOATS and rescue helicopters were launched in a search for a stranded boat which had run aground in an unknown location.
A sailing barge picked up a faint distress call from a yacht called the Emmett, which had two men on board.
They had become disorientated and did not know their location.
Coastguards were contacted and the Walton all-weather lifeboat was launched at about 10.30pm on Friday.
The lifeboat crew found the yacht on the rocks near Jaywick.
They used their inflatable Y-boat to get the people on board over to the lifeboat. An RAF chopper illuminated the area while the rescue was taking place.
The men were taken back to shore and the Clacton Coastguard Rescue team were sent to make sure the stranded vessel was secured.
