Talks ongoing on Castle Park big screen
5:30pm Wednesday 21st August 2013 in News
TALKS are ongoing with a company to see if it is possible to install a big screen in Colchester Castle Park.
The idea was first mooted after hundreds of people watched Andy Murray win Wimbledon in Christchurch Park, in Ipswich, in July.
Although concerns have been raised about the cost of the project, Tim Young, borough councillor responsible for culture, said he would not give up easily.
“We are not going let it go just like that,” he said.
“One of our executive team is involved in talks with an events company to see if we can make it work and make it pay.
“We are not going to be spending thousands of pounds of tax payers’ money but it is certainly something I would love to work.”
He said: “In the present economic climate confronting local councils, unless a commercial operator thought this was worth pursuing I do not think this is something which could be pursued at the present time.”
