Alleged robbery victim charged with theft
12:00pm Tuesday 20th August 2013 in News
A MAN has been charged with theft after claiming he had been robbed at knifepoint.
Ben Kingston, 29, of Chaplin Drive, Colchester, is accused of stealing £12,500 worth of camera equipment from a shop in Manchester.
In June Kingston allegedly told police he had been robbed by a gang, following two confirmed robberies at knifepoint in the area during the same week.
More than a dozen officers and the police helicopter were called out to search around Greenstead for the armed assailants but without success.
Officers now doubt his alleged account and he will appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court next month.
