Carnival fever hits Mersea
3:13pm Sunday 18th August 2013 in News
CARNIVAL fever hit Mersea on Saturday with a water, water, everywhere theme very appropriate for the island town.
Hundreds of residents saw the parade as it wound through the town from Victoria Esplanade to Waldegraves Holiday Park where the Lions Festival was taking place.
The local Brownie troop won the best in show competition by building a wooden treasure chest individually decorated by each of the girls and then convinced their parents to drag them around the route.
Chairman of the Mersea carnival association, Carla Amey was delighted with the success of the carnival.
“The theme was brilliant as it allowed everyone to interpret it in different ways, from people in wellington boots to pirates,” Mrs Amey explained.
“The day has left us very tired but also totally energised to do it again next year.
“I’d like to thank all the volunteers we had because without them the event could not run.” See The Gazette this week for pictures from the event.
