Original foundation brick re-laid at village church
AN ORIGINAL foundation brick moved as part of a church renovation project has been laid once again.
Work is nearly complete on an extension an annex to St Andrew’s Church in Alresford.
Originally built in 1976 the foundation brick, laid with a coin from that year, had to be moved during the works but it was re-laid along with a 2013 coin by church wardens past and present in a special ceremony.
The new building work has kept strong links to the past with original architect Bryan Thomas coming out of semi-retirement to do the basic design, while contractors Cadman’s also completed the original church in the 1970s.
The New Horizons project has seen a new brighter entrance added to the church with better disabled access, more storage space, plus an office and creche and creating a new space for The Hub.
- An open day for the community to see the new build takes place on Saturday September 28 from 2-5pm, and there is a Thanksgiving service on Sunday November 17 at 11am with the Bishop of Chelmsford.
