DEVELOPERS are preparing to submit a controversial planning application to build 45 homes on a football pitch.
Dishland, which owns the Gas Recreation Ground, off Bromley Road, in Colchester, plans to build the homes on two of the three existing pitches.
An application is set to be submitted before the end of September.
The remaining pitch would be given to Gas Rec FC, to secure it future.
The company also plans to build a club house and an astro turf pitch for community use.
Denis Diggin, director of Dishland, said: “We are about a month away from finalising everything.
“Once that’s done, we’ll be submitting the application.”
Campaigners against the plans have submitted an application to Sport England’s Protecting Playing Fields programme in a bid to win £50,000 to either buy the land or lease it from Dishland.
