Red tape forces end of car show
THE organiser of a long-running vehicle show has said it will not be held next year due to council red tape.
Mike Culham, who runs the West Bergholt Vehicle Show, has failed to reach an agreement with Colchester Council about the removal of scaffolding at the showground in Nayland Road, and has been threatened with enforcement action.
Mr Culham has pulled the plug on next year's event saying it will cost too much to remove and re-install the structure every year, and the show would not attract big name acts without it.
Tim Young, councillor for planning at Colchester Council, said the decision to end the show was unfortunate but planning law needed to be complied with.
