Wivenhoe school site sale approved in just over two weeks
A GOVERNMENT minister has given the county council the green light to sell a Wivenhoe community centre.
Essex County Council’s children’s support service had moved out of the Phillip Road centre and the authority needed Whitehall approval to sell the buildings.
A youth club, cinema group and dance school were forced to move out of the centre at the end of July and had feared a six-month wait for the decision, giving them an uncertain future.
But welcome news came today as ministers agreed the sale could go ahead, and it is thought County Hall will now draw up a report before giving its own approval to offer the site for sale, first to community groups.
An open day organised by the Phillip Road User Group is being held at the centre on Saturday September 7 from 2.30-4.30pm for people to view the building and express an interest in helping bid for the site.
