High Street pub named best for cask ale
12:00pm Tuesday 13th August 2013 in News
A COLCHESTER bar has been named the Best Cask Ale Pub.
The Duchess, in High Street, was recognised by Greene King.
It beat off competition from almost 500 pubs in the Local Pubs category.
James Postgate, manager of the Duchess, said: “Cask ale is a live product and so we have to handle the casks gently and ensure the cellar is kept at the perfect temperature to enable the yeast to continue to work in the cask.
“Only then, can we serve the perfect pint.”
He added: “We were up against some tough competition, so it was very exciting to receive the award on behalf of all the team on the night.”
Richard Lewis, managing director for Greene King Local Pubs, added: “James and his team should be very proud of receiving this award.”
