Rowan fights off four robbers
7:00am Tuesday 13th August 2013 in News
FOUR would-be robbers picked on the wrong man when they took on Rowan Adams.
The brazen crooks surrounded him in broad daylight on Colchester’s High Street.
They hit him in the head and tried to rifle through his pockets.
When they gave up former soldier Mr Adams, 29, chased them through the town centre.
He lost sight of them when they ran down Head Street.
Mr Adams said: “I was absolutely furious they had even tried to do this to me.
“I couldn’t let them do it to someone else so I thought I should try to catch them,” said Mr Adams, who lives in Manningtree.
“I dread to think what they would have done if they had picked someone more vulnerable. That could be really serious.”
Mr Adams said the group, all aged 15 to 20 and athletically built, appeared to have planned the assault.
He said: “When I turned into High Street from Lion Walk they came from behind an elderly couple and I couldn’t help but end up between them.
“Then all I knew I was being hit from behind on the head.
“You don’t expect this in broad daylight in Colchester.
“I’ve lived around here for 30 years and nothing like this has ever happened.”
Mr Adams said his attackers were not able to get his mobile phone or wallet because they were securely hidden in his biker’s jeans.
He called the police after his pursuit failed on Friday at 3.40pm.
The suspects are described as white, with short black hair and a brushed fringe.
Anyone with information on the incident should call Colchester police station on 101.
