Final preparations underway for Mersea Carnival
11:37am Monday 12th August 2013 in News
The final preparations are being made for this year’s Mersea Carnival, which will take place on Saturday.
A string of floats from different local organisations will make their way through the area from midday.
This year’s event has the theme title Water, Water, Everywhere.
Although the event has been running on the island for many years, this is only second year it has been organised by the new carnival committee.
Carla Amey, chair of the committee said: “We’re looking forward to it. It will be good. We’re excited.
“We’re hoping for the good weather.
“We want lots of people out there waving and cheering everyone who is taking part.”
The carnival, which is also expected to include a fire engine and vintage cars, will leave from the Victoria Esplanade before heading through Broomhills Road, Prince Albert Road and Yorick Road.
It will then carry on through to High Street before arriving in Barfield Road and finishing in the fields outside Waldegraves Holiday Park in Waldergraves Lane at about 2pm.
Last year the event raised £385, which was given to local groups to help them support children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Although a final decision is yet to be made, the group are planning to put the money to similar use this year.
