BOXING legend Frank Bruno came to Colchester to film part of a new documentary.

The 1995 WBC heavyweight world champion visited the Clarice House health club, in Layer Road, along with his daughter Rachel.

The pair were filming Rachel Bruno: Me and My Dad, part of BBC Three's It's A Mad World season.
In the programme Rachel, 26, tries to uncover the truth behind Frank’s mental health issues, with the boxer, 52, diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2003.

Christine Pointer, general manager at Clarice House Colchester, said: “We welcomed Frank and Rachel Bruno and the directors and the whole Clarice House team were honoured to be selected to host the Brunos’ day.

“They enjoyed use of the gym, spa facilities, a spa treatment and our restaurant whilst Rachel interviewed her dad.

“They were really friendly with both guests and staff here.”

The season of programmes on BBC Three is looking at a range of mental health issues affecting young people in Britain today, from schizophrenia, OCD, eating disorders and self-harming to dealing with family members affected by mental illness.

Film-makers came to the spa back in February but the venue has only just been allowed to reveal details of the visit.

The documentary airs on July 23 at 9pm.
