A HEROIC Colchester medic who saved the lives of four men while being shot at has been recognised for his bravery.

Corporal Daniel Rudge, of 16 Medical Regiment, was on patrol in Afghanistan with the country’s police last year when they came under heavy fire.

He was called into action when his commanding officer and an Afghan Uniformed Police officer were shot.

Later on the same patrol a road side bomb exploded, injuring two others.

With no thought to his own safety Cpl Rudge, 29, gave first aid to the four while being shot at by insurgents.

Cpl Rudge has been recognised for his actions, which happened between April and September last year.

On Friday he was one of only 24 Mentioned in Dispatches for his gallantry.
