Stockwell finally opens its doors
5:00pm Thursday 21st March 2013 in News
A HISTORIC restaurant plagued by problems has finally opened...with one last-minute hitch.
The Stockwell, in West Stockwell Street, Colchester, was first due to open in October after a three year refurbishment.
Building problems saw the date pushed back several times to this week.
But an underfloor heating pipe burst at the eleventh hour, putting the restaurant under four inches of water.
Owner Robert Morgan said staff worked until 3am Thursday to open at midday.

I bet he wouldnt have bothered had he known about the car ban on the High Street. I fear he will be a victim to this pathetic idea by idiots like many other businesses. Good Luck Pal.

A real hero. I could not believe how expensive it was and how long it took. When Colchester Council stated Tymperleys only had £5400 of repars outstanding you can understand why potential bidders thought twice after viewing the building.

Not sure if High St closure will make any difference either way. But he will need to advertise the place so that people know he´s there.
I hope it goes well for him, it´s been quite a few years since the Stockwell was a decent pub.

It´s a brave venture to put so much money into this. He has to get it right from day one, people form their long-term impressions from that first visit. At the prices he is charging, the food has to be memorably good if people are to come back and create long-term repeat trade.
